Insurance Development Forum strengthens leadership with key appointments

Insurance Development Forum (IDF), a public-private partnership, has announced three key additions to its steering committee, bringing a global wealth of experience and expertise to its mission of closing protection gaps and enhancing resilience.

The new members are Patrick Tiernan, Chief Executive of Lloyd’s; Eduardo Fabrega, CEO of ASSA Compañia de Seguros; and José Rivaldo Leite da Silva, CEO of Porto Seguro.

Tiernan, who became the CEO of Lloyd’s on 1st June, brings 30 years of experience across the global insurance industry and deep expertise in commercial strategy, regulation, crisis management, innovation, and market performance.

His extensive background will be crucial as the IDF aims to leverage insurance capabilities like risk modelling, risk reduction, and risk transfer to help vulnerable communities and nations.

Fabrega has been with SSA Compañia de Seguros, a Life and Non-Life insurance company headquartered in Panama, for over three decades.

He brings extensive leadership experience in the insurance sector across Central America, the Caribbean, and beyond. This, coupled with a strong focus on financial inclusion and strategic growth aligns closely with the IDF’s mission to build and expand insurance markets.

His work with Blue Marble Microinsurance further highlights his dedication to advancing inclusive insurance, the IDF noted.

Leite da Silva, began his career at Porto Seguro, one of the biggest insurance companies in Brazil, in 1988, and has been serving as CEO since 2022.

He brings over 30 years of leadership experience in Brazil’s insurance sector, where he has played a pivotal role in driving innovation and shaping the commercial and marketing strategy of Porto Seguro.

His expertise in advancing insurance markets and fostering long-term resilience will be invaluable as the IDF works to create “Future Ready Nations” in emerging and developing economies, the organisation stated.
